Willi Enderli

In the 1970s, Willi Enderli opened his butcher shop in the canton of Zurich. 30 years later, he was the head of a meat company with over 2,000 employees. At “Ekstra Mein” in the Macedonian city of Kumanovo, 100 employees work in close quarters to process meat into ham and sausage. “Although the quality control processes that are common at home are not applied consistently there, the ham and sausage products were of uniformly good quality.”  Enderli acted at every level to improve efficiency, from introducing better meat processing techniques to creating a more standardized workflow through to implementing the better use of key data.  At the lowest and at the highest levels, that is, the owner of the factory, Enderli thinks it will still take some time until management methods that are up to Central European standards are implemented. The missing foundation of professional and vocational training is starkly evident, particularly in middle management. Yet, as Enderli said, “From the department heads to the head of the factory, the business is on the right track.”
